Abstract

English proficiency is a crucial skill linked to individuals’ academic performance, employment prospects, and global competitiveness. This study examines the role of self-efficacy in improving English language abilities. Self-efficacy reflects a person’s confidence in overcoming learning challenges, which directly influences motivation, persistence, and communication performance. Although English language learning has been widely explored, the specific effects of self-efficacy on speaking and writing skills remain insufficiently understood. Traditional instructional methods focused on memorization and translation often limit students’ ability to communicate effectively and lower motivation. Therefore, this study adopts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to analyze existing evidence. Findings show that self-efficacy positively enhances students’ English abilities, highlighting the need to strengthen confidence-building strategies to improve communication skills at the university level.
