Abstract

This study examines the relationship between rising temperatures and their impact on kharif crop production, focusing on how farmers of different age groups perceive, experience, and adapt to climate-related changes. Using primary data collected from 150 respondents and analysed through SPSS cross-tabulation and chi-square tests, the research identifies significant associations between farmers’ age and their awareness of temperature rise, crop yield decline, and adaptive responses. The findings reveal that middle-aged farmers (31–45 years) exhibit the highest awareness of climatic variations and actively adopt adaptation measures such as altering sowing dates, using heat-tolerant crop varieties, and increasing irrigation frequency. Younger farmers (below 30 years) showed limited awareness, while older farmers (46–60 years) demonstrated conservative adaptation behaviour. Moreover, the results indicate that rising temperatures have significantly affected crop maturity, water demand, and household income. Despite these challenges, farmers across age groups reported insufficient institutional guidance and support from government or extension agencies. The study highlights the crucial role of age, experience, and knowledge in shaping farmers’ adaptive behaviour. It further suggests that age-specific training, improved agricultural extension programs, and policy-level interventions are necessary to enhance resilience against climatic stress. Overall, the research contributes to understanding how demographic factors influence climate change adaptation in agriculture, providing valuable insights for sustainable kharif crop management in a warming environment.
